The Trapper is a traditional canoe design that harkens back to an era when folks needed a short canoe with good carrying capacity, lots of stability and something that would be easy to negotiate around obstacles. The Trapper is an easy canoe to paddle, but the real advantage is for folks who like to do things like fishing that require bringing something heavy from outside the canoe to inside the canoe. It would be great to hook into a thirty-pound pike but when you finally get it to your canoe, you don’t want to flip over when you try to haul it into your boat. That’s where the Trapper really shines. The Trapper is fairly wide for such a short canoe and that’s what gives it the stability. To avoid feeling like you are paddling a barge, the shallow arch bottom of the Trapper means you don’t have to sacrifice speed for stability.

H20’s Bob Special 15 is based on the Chestnut Canoe Co.’s classic design, with some slight modifications to increase overall flatwater efficiency. A shallow arch hull with slight rocker combines to provide the secure, no-surprises feeling that infrequent or entry-level canoeists prefer. A shallow shoe keel aids tracking and provides a bang plate against grounding, while still retaining a lively nature for more aggressive paddlers. H2o’s Bob Special is ideally suited for use as a tandem or solo day-tripper, with capacity large enough to handle long weekend outings.

The Pathfinder 16 by H20 Canoe Company is a very stable and predictable canoe. The larger sibling to our Bob Special, its slightly wider width combines with a flat-bottomed shallow arched hull and deep shoe keel to create an exceptionally straight tracking, well-mannered canoe. Pathfinder is accommodating and you will appreciate the Pathfinder 16’s roominess and stability. Entry level, infrequent and casual paddlers are inspired by its no surprises nature. Photographers, fisherman, hunters and other activities that require stability are also attracted by its gentle, steady performance.

H2O Canoe Company Adventurer 15 is a prospector style hull, paddling similarly to the Adventurer 16. Just a little shorter (actual length 15-4) which makes it slightly lighter, easier to maneuver on the water and lift onto a vehicle. A shallow arch hull, the Adventurer 15 is slightly wider and has fuller ends to increase room and provide a higher level of initial stability than the 15-4, 16-4 Prospectors. The Adventurer 15 also differs from the H2O Prospectors as it incorporates a shoe keel and less-rocker, which increases its ability to go straight for beginners and casual canoeists.

Prospector 14-10 Solo is every bit a Prospector style hull with a unique, aggressive freeboard turn in. Reducing the width of the center paddling station allows ease of paddling single or double blade style as reaching over the sides is simplified. The Prospector 14-10 is a typical depth for a solo canoe but more voluminous than our asymmetrical 14-6 or 16-6 options, giving excellent initial stability and tandem like capacity.

H2O Canoe Company Prospector 15-4 is simply a scaled down version of the Prospector 16-4. A semi-round hull, moderate rocker and a traditional symmetrical shape combine to create a nimble, responsive craft for most water conditions. The 15-4’s shorter length purposely sacrifices a slight degree of initial stability to heighten an all-round maneuverability, to controlled paddler leans and turns. Sharp entry lines flare out quickly to increase buoyancy, and when combined with moderate rocker to better float over large waves, rather than go through them. Tumblehome sides improve secondary stability and enhance both solo and tandem paddling.

The original New Brunswick’s Chestnut Canoe Co. created Prospector 16 in 1910. A century later the Prospector design is still widely considered “the most versatile tripping canoe ever”. Today, the ‘Prospector name’ still sells boats, though few Co.’s versions resemble its namesake. Our objective in creating the Heritage Series Prospector 16-4 is to replicate the original canoe design’s magic with extra capacity. The Prospector’s traditional symmetrical shape combines with a semi-round hull and moderate rocker for stable, but sensitive pivots or leans when carving turns. Sharp entry lines enhance but flare out quickly to increase buoyancy to float over large waves, rather than crash through them. Responsive yet predictable under all loads and conditions, Prospector 16-4 is a Canadian Classic.

Prospector 17-6 is an enlarged design generated from our Prospector 16-4 shape. Prospector 17-6 is sized to perform comfortable multiple weeks lake tripping. The Prospector 17-6 adds significant waterline length for tracking. A little width in the center of the hull gains stability, and capacity is increased for storage with most of the extra length in the broadest part of the Canoe. The 17-6 suits an added third seat if required and is an excellent family tripper. Prospector 17-6 is a new Canadian Classic.

The Pal is a predictable, well-mannered traditional canoe that doesn’t cause surprises in handling. It would feel at home doing a canoe trip from a weekend to a week long, doing a leisurely paddle around the cottage or exploring a lake or river. It is stable enough to make getting in and out of the canoe feel safe and it would feel comfortable handling swifts and easy rapids. The profile of the Pal means it isn’t affected as much by wind as some of our other models, but that also means it doesn’t handle big waves as well. That means you don’t have to struggle as much for control in moderate wind, but it’s best to avoid heading out in a strong wind that’s making big waves. The Pal is a good choice for intermediate paddlers who are looking for a canoe that’s enjoyable to paddle solo but is capable of doing moderate wilderness trips with tandem paddlers.

Classic styling, inclusion of a shoe keel and tumblehome sides add to a classic package suiting tandem and solo paddling choices. The Peterborough 16 has adequate capacity for day trippers or weekend outings for two paddlers and excels heeled over on a solo excursion. Optional kneeling thwart in tandem setup or simply choosing a permanent solo setup are considerations for this Canoe.

H2O Canadian 16-6 Canoe is a close replica of an “early settler canoe” originally discovered in Southwestern Ontario in the early 1900’s. H2O’s design embodies the finest characteristics from this exceptional craft along with H2O’s own modern refinements. The resulting combination may just be the ultimate “Canadian” canoe. The essence and versatility of traditional canoes is captured with a symmetrical style hull and re-curved ends, made famous by First Nations Peoples. To reduce wind resistance and maximize efficiency a slightly longer length and narrower beam are carefully combined with sharp entry and exit lines and a lower sheer. The Canadian’s shallow arch hull design and shoe keel provide a rare blend of performance and styling sought by many canoe builders, but seldom achieved. H2O Canoe Company Canadian 16- 6 is a stable, well-mannered and predictable craft, which successfully blends efficiency and a user-friendly nature, while retaining a distinctly traditional “Canadian canoe appearance”.

The Kruger 15 Solo has similar lines to the Kruger 16 which is a Chestnut Canoe Company replica model. The 15 didn’t need to be altered much from the 16 as the Kruger 16 Solos nicely as it is. The Solo 15 Kruger however has been dramatically turned in on the freeboard to provide ample space for hands over gunwale as well providing opportunity for comfortable double blade paddling. Lowered to a typical Solo depth, it is dedicated to Solo paddling with a centre seat position,. The Kruger 15 Solo is an efficient & quick Heritage style symmetrical Solo option. Comparing with the Prospector Solo 14-10 in look & size, the Prospector is most utilitarian and the Kruger quick and exciting.

The Kruger 16 model hits a sweet spot between the Prospector and the Pal models. The Kruger is a tribute to an original Chestnut Canoe Company model. The Kruger would be ideal for paddlers who want a traditional canoe that’s fast, easy to paddle, can carry a couple of weeks’ worth of gear for wilderness trips and can handle rough water with ease. It is better suited to more advanced paddlers as the rounder bottom that makes for ease of turning and less effort to paddle means it might feel tippy to less experienced paddlers. The design of this canoe means it gets more stable the deeper it gets in the water and it shines when adding a load or paddling in rapids or waves kicked up by the wind. While the Kruger would be a good choice for doing an extended wilderness trip, it is also a joy to paddle solo and lends itself well to any paddler who enjoys doing some style paddling.

The Kruger 17 model hits a sweet spot between the Prospector and the Canadian models. H2O is excited to introduce our new Alpha canoe, a hybrid design perfectly suited to rigorous wilderness canoe tripping. The Alpha can be thought of as two different canoes married into one. The bottom portion of this canoe maintains all the benefits of a traditional canoe while the upper portion is designed to be able to handle challenging white water with ease. You could load this canoe with three weeks of gear and tackle an arctic wilderness trip, but it would feel just as much at home poking around a quiet lake paddled empty and solo. The Alpha has very full ends to pop it out of big waves but the mid-section has tumblehome to make it easier to paddle solo. The Alpha isn’t a canoe that’s great at one thing, it’s a canoe that is really good at just about everything. A lot of paddlers will find the Alpha to be the perfect all-round canoe.
